All About Asterisk*
i'm sure many of you have burning questions about the team - Do feel free to post them here, and we will answer at our discretion.examples of questions which we probably will IGNORE include
- what is your hp numnber?
- what is your shoe (or any other bodypart/garment) size?
Please note that we have quite a number of girls on the team currently, so if you wish to ask a specific person a specific question, do make sure you get our names and aka's right. =)
ie, do not call ME pinksheep or cynthia, because i am Tammy aka furryfish.
well... i guess i'll add on to this list of "should and should not dos" as we go.
for now... lets start with some questions that have already been asked in the the other thread here Ang26^^: Do your team have any measurement of success or any goal to achieve? (Dominate the male in Dota scene? Winning the Smm2009? To do something "big"?) And! What's the future of PMS? (Professional gaming? Disband? Life?)
currently its to play in our full lineup for smm. After that we'll be working out a team for local compies - since w4ndeRz will be back in aus.
Ang26^^:What is the strengths and weaknesses of PMS? (got world-class carry, has good understanding of the game-play.etc)
Do you guys good in some specific strategies (defensive, offensive, counter-attack?)
i would say that the current * line up is pretty flexible and all-rounded. what i think we DO lack is a very strong carry, cos all of us find farming boring!
yes, we are better at some strategies than others, i won't go into detail though.
FYI, these are the roles we normally play (based on the current 5 line up of sherica, pinksheep, w4ndeRz, kimchi and furryfish)
farmer/endg - sherica/pinksheep
semi end - any of the rest, dependant on hero
engagers/bsers - the 3 who are not support and are not farming for the game
support - w4ndeRz-, Kimchi, furryfish @furryfish
Straight forward question for *, do you girls want to be super star? Because involve in sport scene could make you girls get the fame really fast. I could see even some of you girls have the potential to become idol as well, so the question is, do you girls think of becoming superstar in gaming scene before? Or you girl just love DotA so much and never think about fame.
(hope this question not sensitive)
Note: I just Highlight the thread 3# chon9
I've always wanted to be a superstar. One with legions of fans all around the world. But not a gaming superstar.
=Þ Rather, I'd like to be a writing superstar. Someone like Sylvia Plath (minus the put-head-in-oven-suicide) or Neil Gaiman.
I enjoy gaming a hell lot. So with regard to DotA and fame - well it probably crossed my mind. But never as a sort of means to ends. If the opportunity presents itself, and the timing is right, maybe.[i=s] Post Last Edit by =Þinksheep at 6-11-2009 11:03

Hi pinksheep, can we schedule a short interview with you about your team in near future?
*Off topic: Do you girls read Chinese? If yes, then we will schedule a Chinese interview ^^ 3# chon9
what are you talking about! i AM already a superstarfish*.
lol. okok... jokes aside.
i'm a gamer cos i like to game and i like the competitive aspect of it.
i just happen to be female.
the number who have heard about us/are our supporters surprises me no end, because i don't really think we are anything special - we're just a bunch of girls who like to game as a bunch of girls.
anyhow, i don't think its THAT easy to gain "superstar-dom", we might be rather well known, but its within a select circle of people, and even within that select circle of "DOTA Gamers", we're only more well known in certain asian countries.[i=s] Post Last Edit by furryfish at 6-11-2009 11:18 [i=s] Post Last Edit by furryfish at 6-11-2009 11:18
@furryfish
I think most of forumer here would care about the when the first time you play DotA and why you play it? (Extra question: your kill and dead please)
{:4_115:} 5# chon9
Sure... just let me or furryfish know. Yeah we do read/understand Chinese although I think our Mandarin is very rusty =X 7# chon9
errr...
this one's really tough to reply...
i played long before it was called dota...
i started off as a standard wc3 player (Nightelf ! ) and played custom games when i got bored. so... that should be sometime in 2003?
and i definitely cannot remember my k/d of that game. lol. @pinksheep, our exclusive editor will contact you soon... And he is super fansboy of * too {:4_114:}
@furryfish, personal question, why would you name yourself furryfish, you love to eat fish? Do you girl play other games other than DotA? How do you compare yourselves with Kingsurf team? I realize this is a very open ended question. Feel free 2 elaborate. 11# bozo
A strange comparison. Why Kingsurf, not Zenith, XTC, MYM, Ravens or any of the other teams? Thats easy. Kingsurf is the favorite Malaysian dota team. Most well known with the most success? Even someone new 2 dota has heard of em. Hence the comparison? 13# bozo
You have noted that your question is open-ended and by right the one who should elaborate is you not us. (How could I know what you intend to ask?) Could it be a wrong choice of words, you may ask in Mandarin if you prefer.
But for discussion's sake let's proceed.
1. Comparing * to KS' popularity in Malaysia
I cannot answer this, perhaps you can since you -are- one of the fans/supporters.
2. Comparing * to KS in terms of skills
Results speak for itself, Kingsurf is obviously and notably much stronger than us.
What other angles would there be. 10# chon9
as i mentioned, i used to play wc3 standard. a couple of friends used to play 3v3s with me, and this was one of the random names we came up with specially for our 3v3s - fuzzyfish, fizzyfish and furryfish. 11# bozo
erm... they're guys, and we're girls?
in terms of fame and popularity, i think they're more well known in china than we are because they speak mainly chinese and we speak mainly english?
and there's just no basis for comparison in terms of gameplay. I'm not sure does this question has been asked by someone before, but, how do you girls get the name "Asterisk*"???
I mean, how come you all thought of this name??? Inspiration of something??? Or just random???
>.<
11# bozo
and there's just no basis for comparison in terms of gameplay.

Could u explain this sentence. Why no comparison? Dun we all play dota? Popularity and skills are 2 things. How bout dedication? How long term are you? KS practice 5 days a week, 8 hours per day? Do you train as hard, how often do u train?. Or u guys have real life commitments? Yes the question is very open ended. They are boys you are gals. Has this impeded you in any way?.
In gameplay im sure different teams follow diff strategies. Ks team as most teams can play most any hero. However every player excels in certain heros for example ks yamateh is superb in sf and od? Snoy of team Gl is fantastic in bb and viper. How does ur gameplay revolve around your carry as compared 2 ks team? 17# ut4d4hik4ru
Shan and I named it some 2-3 years ago. I liked the * star... very cute. Then Shan said how about Asterisk? Yeah. =) 18# bozo
How bout dedication? How long term are you?
The team has been around since 2005 since furryfish and I got together. Players have come and gone but I would suppose that the both of us are relatively dedicated, considering we have been doing it for 4 years now.
KS practice 5 days a week, 8 hours per day? Do you train as hard, how often do u train?
During tournament seasons (usually 1 month before), we train as often as we can. "As often" because all of us have commitments to school/work. But aside from that, there's one fixed LAN session every week.
Or u guys have real life commitments?
Every one has real life commitments. It depends on how you prioritise them.

They are boys you are gals. Has this impeded you in any way?
The mystical gender argument. Could I say no? Is there an answer to this? Generally speaking, boys seem to take it more seriously than girls. We like to have fun as well as compete.

Our gameplay usually comprises of one late carry and one semi-carry/ganker. As furryfish mentioned before, we don't really have a strong late carry because we're all not very fond of farming to carry.
I hope I have answered your questions. @Pinksheep,
Hi Pinksheep and furryfish, i heard from Limvt about the live chat session, can you briefly pm about the details? Thanks 21# chon9
What I proposed to Limvt was a live chat session once every month/two months where any * members who are free can come to UCPro to chat with UCPro users in real time. I don't know if you guys have the technical capabilities of a "live" chatroom (like IRC). If so it would be nice. as long as you girls have an UcPro ingame ID you'll be able to login to our game channels using Ucplay (which we use to login to game server).
It is a perfect place for live chat
21# chon9

That will be cool if you girls plan to have a live chat section with all the fans in UCpro. I am sure that this will be good chance for all the fans to know more about *. I think our server could be a place for the live chat section, since you can easily login to our server with a simple chat client(topaz modified for our platform). We are just waiting for your confirmation and a list of username you want (For your whole team), and we will make the id for you. So we can have the live chat section over there. ^_^ Hey girls, I like to ask really random questions (hope you don't mind) ;p
1)
Do any of you have a specific favourite mouse (brand, model, colour) when you use to game? Or any personal gadget preferences? I have really small hands and I find it really hard to move some mice so... :) collecting some inspirations
2)
The DotA environment can get really rude especially in Malaysia, do you girls encounter verbal abuses before and if so, how do you usually respond? Would you demand for a certain level of respect (perhaps due to your gender) or are you so used to the vulgar gaming environment that you just sort of "blend in"?
3)
What are your favourite DotA gaming platforms / communities (if any)? 24# chon9

Heya!
1) I don't particularly have a favorite brand but i'm currently using razer copperhead + razer destructor.
2) If i do encounter verbal abuse i usually just ignore them. i don't like neverending typing marathons.
3) I usually play on MCC Room / SG Clan War Room on Garena. Recently I've been playing @ Msia Clan War Room as well. ^^ Occasionally i play on a battle.net replicate called Bored Aussies. =Þinksheep pls reply pm asap, tq Thank you for answering my questions.

HI CYN! Do add w4ndeRz- to mod too thanks!

1. My favourite mouse so far must be the Razer Copperhead. It's been my trustworthy partner for nearly 4 years now. I have small hands too and find the Lachesis a bit too big. I also use Razer Destructor for mousepad.
2. Rude people are everywhere. But while you can't change their manners you can moderate your replies. I try to keep my head when talking to strangers.
3. Garena. There hasn't really been any other platform, unless you include BNET which is not available to many. We have yet to try UCPro's platform. Will let you know if we like it when we do![i=s] Post Last Edit by =Þinksheep at 6-11-2009 18:36
Added, welcome another super * What's your view towards the arising E-Sport industry? (Isit just merely addiction of gaming trend or really deliver and develop professional gaming) Will PMS convert to Professional Gaming team? (if PMS is not) Thanks for the replies :) If any other girls from * wishes to submit their input based on my questions, feel free to do so =] Seems like razor copperhead is a credible choice, might get one one day =] (would be better if they sell those in pink shades) ^^
